Message by CEO SCAA Mr. Garry Albert for the occasion of ICAO’s 80th Anniversary

On this special occasion of the 80th Anniversary of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), we proudly reflect on the theme “Safe Skies, Sustainable Future.”

This resonates deeply with Seychelles’ journey as an ICAO signatory since 1977, shaping the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority’s (SCAA) commitment to safety, innovation, and sustainability in aviation.

Safety and security is the cornerstone of our operations. Seychelles is implementing critical elements through cooperation with regional bodies such as ICAO, AFCAC and other states like South Africa and Rwanda to ensure the necessary capacity building to achieve a high level of Effective Implementation (EI), which will surpass regional and global averages. Investments in advanced technologies and equipment, as well as our emergency trainings and drills demonstrate our dedication to creating and maintaining safe skies for all who rely on our aviation sector.

As a small island nation, sustainability is at the heart of our vision. From energy-efficient LED lighting across our terminals to reducing single-use plastics, we are committed to minimizing our environmental impact. Our participation in ICAO’s CORSIA program reflects our determination to ensure that aviation growth in Seychelles supports global environmental goals.

None of our achievements would be possible without the collective efforts of our dedicated team and stakeholders. From the housekeepers who keep our spaces clean and welcoming, to the air navigation services team who guides our skies, or the various teams ensuring seamless operations, and enabling modern connectivity, every role matters.

Today, we also reflect on the contributions of our SCAA team and our airport community as a whole; airlines, ground handler, customs, immigration, food & beverages outlets, and all stakeholders who work alongside us to provide a world-class experience for our airport guests. Together, we have achieved significant milestones, namely ACI’s Level 1 and Level 2 Customer Experience Accreditations, though we continuously strive to raise the bar even higher.

Looking ahead, the finalization of the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) Act and Seychelles Aviation Act in January 2025 will mark a new chapter, enhancing regulatory frameworks and operational efficiency. As we prepare for future milestones, we celebrate not just our accomplishments but also the collective spirit that drives us forward. Together, we will continue to soar to greater heights, ensuring that Seychelles remains a shining example of aviation excellence in the global community.
