The Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) has officially granted regulatory approval to Discover Airlines, marking a major milestone in Seychelles’ air connectivity. The approval letter was formally handed over by the Chief Executive Officer of SCAA, Mr. Garry Albert, to Discover’s Station Manager for Nairobi & Seychelles, Dr. Adewale Sanni, during a short ceremony held at the SCAA Head Office, D’Offay Building, Providence. The ceremony was also attended by a few key personnel who had been part of the approval process for Discover.
The leisure airline, part of the Lufthansa Group, is set to commence scheduled flights from Frankfurt to Seychelles on Monday 27 October 2025, operating twice weekly using an Airbus A330 which has a capacity of 310 passengers.
Discover Airlines, is based in Frankfurt and connects travellers to over 63 destinations across Europe, North America, Africa, and the Caribbean. Its new route to Seychelles, expands its reach into the Indian Ocean region. This development strengthens Seychelles’ aviation network, providing direct access between Europe and Seychelles with economic spillovers to the country.
The airline’s entry was made possible through the updated Air Transport Agreement between the Republic of Seychelles and the Federal Republic of Germany, signed during the ICAO Air Services Negotiation Event (ICAN) in Kuala Lumpur in October 2024. The revised agreement increases the permitted flight frequencies from three to fourteen weekly and allows up to five airlines from either side to operate scheduled air services between Seychelles and Germany.
"Discover Airlines’ entry into Seychelles highlights the essential role we at SCAA play in promoting air transport development in Seychelles. It is supported with a well-regulated environment which prioritizes safety. As the regulatory body for civil aviation in the country, SCAA’s approval is a critical prerequisite for all international airlines seeking to operate to Seychelles. We are proud to have supported this process, paving the way for strengthened connections and opportunities that benefit both the industry and the wider economy. We wish Discover Airlines the very best as they begin operations in Seychelles." said Mr. Garry Albert, Chief Executive Officer of SCAA.
Upon receiving the letter of approval from SCAA, the Station Manager of Discover Airlines, Dr. Sanni Adewale remarked that this moment represents a culmination of months of robust engagement with SCAA. He expressed his appreciation for the high level of professionalism and meticulous attention paid by SCAA personnel in undertaking their due diligence towards approval. He mentioned that Discover airlines looks forward to starting its first flight to Seychelles on Monday 27th October 2025.t would ensure that the SCAA as the regulator is independent of the organizations which it regulates, strengthening impartiality and transparency and promoting good governance.
